Casting Your Burden

Out Of OrderOne of the ways that we all show a lack of faith is by worrying. I have been the queen of worry! I can vividly imagine how terrible a situation will turn out.

I don’t just imagine it, I feel it, see it, and smell it. It’s as real to me as the next breath I take. As a child, I watched the adults around me worry about everything.

They would work themselves up, talking about all the terrible possibilities. Sleepless nights ensued; stomach aches, headaches, you name it, were all manifested by a vivid negative imagination.

And was it worth it?

Nearly every single time, the horrible situation did not occur. The relief was palpable. In one instance, I remember my mother was quite sure she was going to be fired from her job. She was excellent at anything she put her mind to.

Employers were always pleased with her work. But for some reason, she was sure she was going to be let go. Instead, she was congratulated on a job well done and given a raise!

She was floored.

The Root Of Worry

Worry has so much more to do with one’s own self-esteem than it does with the actual situation we’re presented with. We give worry so much power that we can’t find our own!

Imagine if you had been taught to get very quiet and to think of how you would like the situation to resolve.

Imagine if you had been taught to believe–really believe–in a power greater than yourself that would help you.

As humans, it is so much easier to worry or become fearful than it is to have faith.

It takes a conscious act of will to: Continue reading Casting Your Burden

Fear Versus Faith

“Faith never looks out of the window at the blizzard. It simply prepares for the blessing asked for.”  Florence Scovel Shinn

Helping HandI gotta tell you that I grew up seeing blizzards instead of blessings. I never expected to ride in a limousine.

Those vehicles are so luxurious and beautiful. Everything about them says, “prosperity.”

Instead, I learned early on to prepare for the worst because most assuredly the worst would come. I figured my life was more like Lilly Title Company in Staunton.

It was a necessity, something I would pay for because I had to have it. Because, you know, the worst would come!

I knew I was not one of the lucky ones who would be awarded the good in life.

So prepare I did. With a constant knot in my stomach, I saw the world as a thorny path to be tread carefully. I got bruised and scratched a lot. But here’s the weird thing. I never questioned it! I expected it.

It wasn’t until I became an adult that I discovered others who chose to create a world that attracted all kinds of goodness into their lives. From getting squired in chauffeured limousines to simply feeling comfortable in their own skin, these people had more joy than anyone I had ever met before. Yes, they had their share of misfortune, but that was what was so interesting.

They didn’t:

Broke Or Broken-Hearted?

The Law Of Prosperity

money magnet 3d conceptYou’ve said it. I’ve said it. We’ve all said these fatal words at one time or another. “I’m broke.”

What makes those words so dangerous?

Think of your mind like the layers of your skin. The outside layer is visible to the whole world. And that layer is the result of what is produced in the deeper layers of the skin.

Weird but true. The dermis, the deepest layer of the skin, is called the true skin and it’s where all change occurs.

Your conscious mind is the outer layer of your existence. It reflects the results of the subconscious. Now, if you’re a negative thinker, harshly judgmental, and self-critical (the two go hand-in-hand), everywhere you look you see exactly that!

Monmouth County New Jersey Limo Service sees this all the time. They are a luxury business, but people call wanting to get the “lowest price” BUT with the same luxury service.

There’s a disconnect between what they want and what they think they can afford. Yet, they treat this service as if they were going to Wal-Mart and pulling a limo service off the shelf!

And that’s the catch.

Your subconscious doesn’t know the difference between “reality” and fiction. If you say:

  • “I’ll never get ahead in life.”
  • “Rich people get all the breaks.”
  • “I’m too old to change.”
  • “I don’t have enough money.”

Your subconscious hears that and says, “Oh, so that’s what you want? Okay.” And it sets upon giving you what you ask for.

How?

If you’re telling yourself you’ll never get ahead in life, do you look for opportunities to change your circumstances? Do you see possibilities instead of dead ends?

The old saying, you are what you think about all day long, is true. Even the Bible teaches this. It says that “through his spoken word” all that belongs to him can be released.

In a nutshell, you are a magnet for your own success or failure!

How’s that for a kick in the pants?Kickboxing

Good, bad, or indifferent, we are responsible for what happens to us. When I first heard that, it made me angry. How could it possibly be my “fault”? What I didn’t understand was this.

It’s not about fault. It’s about taking responsibility and action.

Success is truly and inside job. As the late Wayne Dyer said, “Abundance is not something you acquire. It’s something you tune into.”

That made my head spin! How could my thinking possibly be responsible for my lack of money? My poor relationship choices? My low self-esteem?

It took me a long time to understand that I was suffering from a broken heart.

I’ll bet that’s true for you, too. Perhaps you were like me. You weren’t taught to believe in yourself. As a child, you may have witnessed adults who spoke negatively about their ability to earn a living and to get ahead in life.

Children’s minds are like sponges. They absorb what they see and hear. This isn’t to blame those around you. It’s to help you see that it’s all about programming.

In Florence Shinn’s masterful 1925 book, “The Game Of Life And How To Play It,” she shows us the rule book for abundant living. If you haven’t read it, grab it!

The Law of Prosperity dictates that there is a supply for every demand. The catch? You must prepare for what you want even though you haven’t got a shred of evidence that it’s going to arrive.

And that’s where faith comes in. I’ll talk about that in the next post.

In the meantime, begin to re-program your poverty thinking with this affirmation about money, courtesy of Florence Scovel Shinn:

Spirit is never late. I give thanks for receiving the money on the invisible plane and know that it manifests on time.
